Our Work
The Julia C. West Foundation encourages, empowers, and enables charitable organizations and individuals to serve the local community.
We carry out that mission in action through two main initiatives: granting financial support and providing office space.
Grants
Julia wanted her financial success to benefit others. The Foundation honors her legacy by awarding grants to charitable organizations and individuals.
These grants are designed to support the work performed in these areas:
Education
Julia had a deep passion for learning and education, and she believed in making education accessible to all. The Foundation supports initiatives that provide opportunities for further education, particularly for those who may face financial barriers to continuing beyond secondary school.
The Arts
Julia’s love for the arts was central to her life, and the Foundation continues to support local artists, organizations, and cultural initiatives that enrich the community and celebrate creative expression.
Animal Welfare
Julia was a passionate advocate for animal welfare, particularly in the care and protection of animals in need. The Foundation supports local animal welfare initiatives that ensure the well-being of animals in our community.
If you’re working on a worthy cause in one of these areas, the family and the Foundation would love to hear your story and explore how we can support your efforts in continuing Julia’s legacy.
Office Rental Space
Julia owned a building in downtown Kingsport that originally served as her law firm. As part of her legacy, she wanted to utilize the building’s office space for those who need it.
Whether you need a space for meetings or a long-term location to bring your project to life, the Foundation is honored to offer Julia’s space. She would have been thrilled to support the great work you’re doing for our community.
Located on E. Center Street, The West & Rose Foundation Building is considered the cornerstone of Kingsport as it is the first building you pass when you drive downtown.

How to Submit a Grant Application
Though the grant process may feel intimidating or overwhelming at first, we want you to feel at ease during the application process. We want to get to know you and hear your story, just as Julia would have wanted.
Application
Our application form will ask you questions about your organization or project. Take time to share your vision and how your project will make a difference in our community.
Board Review
Grant applications are welcome throughout the year. The Board of Directors usually reviews during the 1st and 2nd Quarter. Grant awards are anticipated to be made in May of each year.
Notification
A Foundation member will reach out to discuss the Board’s final decision on your grant application. If awarded, we will give further details on next steps.
